Bill's landscapes and cityscapes were generally done spontaneously at the site and captured the feel of the subject well. As he develped techniques for his abstract and symbolic works he sometimes did preliminary sketches to solidify a design. Wood relief abstracts like Rapsody (shown below) required an inventory of shapes to be cut and painted in advance. Spiritus (scroll down) was the last serious work and was done in his 88th year.
